5-Day Village Immersion Program in Chakung Village for Self-Awareness

Duration: 5 Days
Location: West District, Sikkim, India
Program Type: Residential Program
Format: English, Hindi, Malayalam
Program Overview

Five days across two West Sikkim villages to notice how you move, eat, connect, rest and belong.

Modern wellbeing is often something we add to our lives: a workout, a diet, a meditation habit. This residential program starts from a different question. What can a very different everyday rhythm teach us about our own?

For five days you step into daily life in Chakung and Sribadam in West Sikkim. You walk where people walk, visit farms, cook with local families, eat together, listen to elders, spend time outdoors and keep evenings quiet. You see how land, water, food and livelihood connect, and each full day holds unscheduled time to simply notice.

The program does not claim village life is healthier or something to copy. It uses the villages as a real setting to look at five ordinary parts of wellbeing: movement, food, connection, rest and belonging. What stays relevant to your own life is yours to decide.

Highlights

Signature Experiences

Distinctive moments that give this journey its character and depth.

01
Signature Experience

Walk Into the Day

A village walk instead of a workout, through lanes, slopes, farms and kitchen gardens, noticing how movement is built into daily routines rather than scheduled as exercise. The question to notice: how much does my environment determine how much I move?

02
Signature Experience

Farm, Kitchen, Table

A visit to a working farm or kitchen garden, then small groups cook lunch with local hosts (momo making, plus another locally appropriate dish). Framed as a single journey from where food grows to how it is prepared to how it is shared. Harvesting is only offered where seasonally genuine.

03
Signature Experience

The Two-Hour Gap

A protected period with nothing planned. Nap, read, walk, talk, drink tea or do nothing. The invitation is to notice what happens when you are not expected to learn, perform, exercise, consume content or achieve anything.

04
Signature Experience

Stories of Chakung

An informal conversation with village elders or residents about childhood, family, traditions, folklore and change. Conversational rather than performative, covering both continuity and change in the village.

05
Signature Experience

Follow the Water

From water source to trout farm: where the water comes from, why the setting supports trout farming and how geography enables a livelihood. You meet the people at the working farm. The thread is Mountain, Water, Fish, Livelihood, Food.

06
Signature Experience

The Final Table

Over tea on the last morning, Move, Eat, Connect, Rest and Belong are placed at the centre. Two questions: which one changed your thinking the most, and what is one small part of these five days that could realistically belong in your normal life?

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about this program, participation and what to expect.

A village immersion is different from simply visiting a rural destination. Instead of moving from attraction to attraction, this program places participants inside the ordinary rhythm of village life for five days.

In Chakung and Sribadam, that means walking through village lanes and farms, cooking with local hosts, sharing meals, listening to residents, spending time outdoors and leaving part of each day deliberately unscheduled. The purpose is not to suggest that village life is better or healthier. It is to use a different everyday setting to notice your own relationship with movement, food, connection, rest and belonging.

The program is designed to help participants notice their own relationship with five ordinary parts of wellbeing: movement, food, connection, rest and belonging. Village life is used as a setting for reflection, not presented as a lifestyle that participants are expected to copy.

It is designed for individuals and small private groups interested in nature, cultural immersion, slower routines and greater awareness of how they move, eat, connect and rest. The listed maximum capacity is 12 participants.

The program takes place across Chakung and Sribadam in West Sikkim. Participants spend the first three days in Chakung and the final two days in Sribadam.

The program lasts 5 days and 4 nights. Participants stay for the complete experience once their selected start date begins.

A typical day may begin with morning tea followed by a village walk. Participants may then visit a farm or kitchen garden, cook with local hosts, share lunch, have two hours of unstructured time and later meet village residents or elders. Dinner and quiet evenings bring the day to a close.

The program uses village accommodation in Chakung and Sribadam, with local hosting and connection to place taking priority over resort-style luxury. The submitted listing currently describes a single hut stay option.

Yes. All meals are included as part of the five-day program. Food is connected to local farms, kitchen gardens and cooking experiences, and meals are generally shared communally.

The listing currently includes pescatarian and mixed/non-vegetarian options. Food is approached as part of the cultural experience rather than through restrictive dieting or calorie-focused menus.
